My Favorite Beauty Tips

Thursday, January 10, 2013

There are tons of great beauty tips out there; thanks to this wonderful thing called the internet we can type in a simple question and get a quick tip. In a world full of beauty information including some tips that we occasionally use and others that we can use weekly or even daily, I decided to compile a list of my favorite beauty tips. These are the tricks that I follow most often with my beauty routine (in no particular order). If you have any questions, let me know in the comments section below. I’d love to hear from you.

1.) Its plain and simple, get some sleep! Sleep has tons of health benefits, but a good night’s sleep also keeps you looking your best. The proper amount of sleep keeps your eyes from looking puffy and dark circles from forming. Not to mention you just feel better when you are well rested.

2.) When blow drying your hair, always end by giving your hair a cool shot using the cooling button on your hair dryer. This will help set your hair for the day.

3.) Since we are in the middle of winter, this is at the forefront of my mind. The weather can make our skin very dry and we should moisturize daily. This isn’t just for your face or hands, your legs and arms need lotion too. I’ve found that applying lotion as soon as I dry off from the shower (and my skin is still slightly damp) helps my skin to stay moisturized throughout the day.

4.) Along those same lines, I know that elbows can be very dry on most people. Pour a little olive oil onto a cotton ball and rub it into your elbows. This will help keep them smooth without investing in some pricey lotion.

5.) Dry Shampoo is my best friend! I have never gotten an impressed look from my stylist when asked the question “what products do you use on your hair?” until I told her that I apply dry shampoo to my roots each morning. Once I blow dry my hair, I spray the dry shampoo and rub it in. This helps to give my roots some lift and makes my hair easier to style (i.e. tease to please) by giving it a little texture.

6.) Another secret weapon in the hair department is John Frieda’s Full Repair Touch Up Flyaway Tamer. This is like a clear mascara for your hair. Whenever you have flyaway hairs or even pesky little hairs sticking straight up that won’t lay down, just run the wand over your hair and voila! Your hair stays where you need it to. And you don’t have to worry about getting sticky fingers from too much hairspray (although hairspray is a great beauty product to use!).

7.) Buy the beauty products you want, no matter the price. Just because a product is expensive doesn’t make it 100% better for you. Case in point, my favorite eye shadow (which you can see my eye makeup routine here) is a CoverGirl product. And I will surely cry if it is ever discontinued.

8.) If you have oily skin, blotting papers are your best friend for touch ups. Instead of applying more powder, just use one of the papers to blot up the oil that is produced during the day. These babies are amazing and give your skin a nice matte finish.

9.) Good skin care is all you need to keep your makeup looking fantastic, its builds a strong foundation. I wash my face in the morning when I wake up and at night to wash off my makeup. Plus I use a mattifying lotion and a microdermabrasion system (twice a month). Click the links to read more about those products, they are amazing.

10.) And finally, the best beauty secret I can give you. Drink lots of water. It does wonders for your skin, keeping it feeling smooth and looking clear. Plus all of that water keeps you hydrated (obvi) which keeps the dryness away.

So there you have it. Those are my favorite beauty tips that I use daily. There are so many more out there, but these I have found work great for me.

  1. I agree. Moisturizing is so important. I have been moisurizing after every shower ever since I was about 15.
