Battle of the Beauty Blenders
Often, people will ask me what my favorite beauty tool is and I can 100% answer that without any hesitation: The Beauty Blender.
I've used a Beauty Blender for years and absolutely love the flawless finish it gives to my foundation application. Although, before I was a Beauty Blender lover, I must admit that I first questioned if a makeup sponge was really worth $20. And I must tell you that YES IT IS.
When using a Beauty Blender, I get flawless makeup application with minimal product waste. It actually helps to stretch my foundation longer than if I used something else. My makeup goes on streak-free with very little effort.
However, I do recognize that not everyone wants to spend $20 on a makeup sponge. So I decided to test out some of the other dupes on the market and see which one really compared. See below for my honest to goodness, true thoughts.

Favorite Setting Powders
One of my favorite products to help stop makeup meltdown is a setting (or translucent) powder. Setting powders lock in your foundation and concealer and absorb oil to help keep your makeup where you applied it. As a person with very oily skin, I use a setting powder daily to help control the shine. Translucent powders do not change the color of your foundation, they are meant to be applied on top of your foundation to help give you an airbrushed look.
(Awhile back, I wrote a post on my four favorite products to stop makeup meltdown. To see what other products I recommend besides a setting powder, click this link to read.)
For this post, I tested out several different powders that I have seen makeup artists and beauty bloggers recommend. As always, my goal is to find the product that works for the everyday woman. I always prefer to spend my money on a product that really works and sometimes that does mean spending a bit more. Overall, I found that all of the setting powders I tested did their job. They all do last a long time (depending on how much you use) giving you many, many applications before you have to replenish. But there are some reasons I like certain products over others.

Makeup Primer Roundup
Affiliate links are used in this blog post where I might make a small commission if you purchase anything. Thank you for supporting this blog!
There are several reasons to use a makeup primer:
-combat shine
-create a smooth base for your foundation
-combat shine
-create a smooth base for your foundation
-help your makeup last longer
-smooth fine lines, wrinkles or large pores
-color correct
-prevent makeup creasing in your eyelids
For today's post, I tried out four different makeup primers of varying price points and I'm giving you my thoughts and opinions. When testing everything out, I used the same makeup each day and only changed the primer. I also had about the same level of activity each day to make sure each primer got a fair shot.
Before I get too deep in this post, I must tell you that the BEST way to feel happy in your skin and to have great makeup is to start with terrific skin care. If you don't take care of your skin, it won't really matter what makeup you use. I'm happy to chat with you about your skin care needs if you are looking to try Rodan + Fields products. Tips To Detangle Your Child's Hair (or Yours)
This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on those links.
If you or your child have long hair, you've likely had your share of fights with tangled hair after a bath. My daughter has gorgeous red hair and I absolutely refuse to cut it short. When hair is the rich red color of her hair, you keep it long for the world to enjoy no matter the cost, am I right?!?! After many battles and a few tears over tangled hair, I searched to find the best solution and I believe I have found it!!!!

Here are my top 3 tips on How To Detangle Your Child's Hair
1.) Start combing/brushing at the bottom of the hair.
I've done this my entire life with my own hair and always brush my daughter's hair this way. In an attempt to not jerk her head with each stroke of the hair brush, I start by making small downward brushing movements from the bottom of her hair and work my way up. This method does take a bit of patience to work through all of the tangles, but it is a much more gentle way to comb or brush through all of the tangles. It also makes it easier on those sensitive heads.

Tips to Long Lasting Makeup
As a beauty lover with oily skin, I've struggled with makeup meltdown A LOT. Summer, winter, whenever, my makeup used to be nonexistent by the end of the day. I am somewhat of a beauty junkie as I'm always willing to try new beauty products and see what the latest and greatest is (except for my skincare...that is constantly Rodan + Fields). Today I'm going to share four products that are tried and true and have helped me FINALLY discover the secret to long lasting makeup. And the great news, any skin type can use the first three of them (the last one is really just for people with oily skin)!
First let me say, I learned when I was in my mid-twenties that if you want good makeup, you really do need to have a good skincare routine. So take a good look at what you are using under your makeup before you try to cover up so many problems with makeup. I've also learned that sometimes drug store products do the trick and are exactly what you need. But there are other times where you do have to pay a bit more for quality products with quality ingredients if you want flawless skin and makeup.
My Favorite Beauty Products to Prevent Makeup Meltdown
1.) Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray
This is my ride or die beauty product, I use this setting spray every single day because it works so well. I always apply this immediately after my makeup is complete and my makeup lasts all day. The spray is a fine, weightless mist that coats your face and helps your makeup stay where it should. Sephora's website claims it will keep your makeup looking freshly applied for up to 16 hours! I use probably 6 quick sprays and I'm done. You don't want to overspray your face and dampen your makeup. You will likely feel the spray on your face for about 10 seconds, but then it is dry and good to go!

Winter Skin Tips
Winter is here which means frigid temperatures and cold wind can wreck our skin. Even people with oily skin on their face (raises hand) may still have to battle dry skin else where. It's important to take care of your skin daily, even if you aren't going to be in direct sunlight. Did you know that some people don't even think about their skin care unless they are planning a beach vacation?!?! Here are some of my best tips, to keep my skin looking its best every single day.
1.) Drink LOTS of water. Hydrating your skin from the inside out is probably the most important thing you can do. Without enough water, your skin can appear duller and your wrinkles and pores will appear more prominent. No one wants that! When skin is hydrated and plump it is less likely to crack.
2.) Moisturize - your face. It is important to use a moisturizer even if you have oily skin (there are different types/forumlations of moisturizers that you can use depending on your skin type). A moisturizer helps lock in the skin's moisture. Think of it as kind of "sealing" in the work you just did with your cleanser and toner.
3.) Moisturize - your hands. The cold temps and constant hand washing cause my hands to crack in the winter. I make sure to use a cream based moisturizer since it is a thicker substance with more oil to help heal my dry hands. Rodan + Fields has a specific skin care line for sensitive skin and their SOOTHE Moisture Replenishing Cream is a LIFESAVER for my winter hands.
4.) Wash off your makeup. Please don't ever go to bed with your makeup on, this can clog your pores and lead to tons of breakouts.
5.) Exfoliate. When you have excess dry skin or even dry patches, you need to exfoliate your skin and remove the dead skin that is just sitting on your face. Exfoliating can also help you get rid of blackheads and give you a more of a glowing complexion.
To help with winter redness (like you see in the photo above), I'd love to tell you about the Rodan + Fields Soothe Regimen. This Regimen is designed to help treat people with sensitive, dry or irritated skin. I use it on my hands daily to treat my dry, cracked skin. Soothe calms, relieves, nourishes and defends your skin! AND Soothe can be used on babies and toddlers, in addition to adults!
There are SO MANY uses for this regimen. My customers and other R+F customers use it to treat:
-skin redness
-wind burn
-rosacea
-razor burn
-sunburn
-keritosis pilaris
-eczema (even on babies!)
-poison ivy
-dry, cracked hands
-burns in general
-rashes
-psoriasis
Stop suffering from these common ailments and let me help you!!!! But don't take my word for it - just look at the photo above. Those are REAL results.
If you would like more info on the Soothe Regimen or if you have other skin concerns, feel free to shoot me a message! (lindsay@pursuitofpink.com)

Perfect Makeup Travel Bag
I received a complimentary cosmetic bag from London Soho New York for review purposes, all opinions are completely my own.
Are you traveling for the holidays this year? Have I got the perfect cosmetic/makeup travel bag to share with you! Perfect is a pretty bold word, but I can honestly say that London Soho New York has nailed it with this bag.
Before I get into why I love the London Soho New York cosmetic box, allow me to give you some back story. For a long time (at least five years) I carried all of my makeup in a giant bag that I got for free from a department store. I loved that bag, but after throwing so much makeup into it for 5 years it got quite dirty. Sadly, I decided to throw my beloved bag away and went on a quest to find an identical one but I could not find anything that came close to it. I've had to settle for mediocre bags since then. Yes it sounds silly that I just spent an entire paragraph explaining my saga about a makeup bag, but when you love makeup like I do this is important.
I've been looking for a bag that holds all of my makeup at once so it needs to be a pretty good size. However, I don't want it to be too large with a lot of extra space. When there is extra space, your powders can come open and spill all over the place. No one wants that! The London Soho New York cosmetic box is the perfect size. But why I really love the cosmetic box is the awesome brush holder in a separate zippered section. You are able to keep everything neatly organized in the brush slots. I hate just tossing my brushes into my bag and pulling them out later to see that the brushes have completely lost their shape. This way your brushes stay neat and tidy and will look how you expect them to look when you pull them out after traveling. Plus there is a mesh pouch which allows you to carry any extra brushes or miscellaneous items (lipsticks) you might have.
And one final note for all of you neat freaks like me out there. The inside is made of easy-wipe vinyl, so you don't have to worry about makeup staining your cosmetic box. I may never have to buy another cosmetic bag again! With a super affordable price point, this is THE cosmetic bag to own. It would also make a great Christmas present. You can pick one of these awesome bags up at Target.

Whish Body Butter
I love summer fruit! The taste, the colors, the smell...I always want to bottle up the fragrant fruits. Lucky for me, I just discovered some incredible Body Butters from Whish as part of their Soda Fountain Collection. And the smells are delicious!
Whish has four yummy flavors available: Black Cherry, Ginger Melon, Key Lime and Orange Cream. I have the Black Cherry and Key Lime and cannot stop smelling them. Both scents are incredible and make me want to taste them. And when I wear the Body Butter, I don't even need to put on perfume because the fragrance is already enough.
Besides the amazing scent, the Body Butters are extremely moisturizing. After spending a lot of time in the sun this summer, my legs have gotten a little dry. I just need a little bit of the Body Butter and my legs are instantly smooth, without feeling too greasy. Whish uses organic ingredients whenever possible to create a luxuriously indulgent and soothingly moisturizing experience. My skin stays smooth all day long.
If you are looking for an indulgent, sweet treat; save yourself the calories and buy some of these awesome Body Butters from Whish.
And for all of your Nordstrom lovers, the Whish Soda Fountain Collection will be available in 16 ounce pump bottles during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale through August 2!

Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Mat Review
I have waited on the Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Mat for months! And I finally have one! I first heard about the mat when they did a super cool instagram campaign and by the time I clicked over to their site, the bad boy was completely sold out. So I joined their wait list and got an e-mail letting me know when it was back in stock and I am so glad I did! Because sadly, the mat is out of stock again!!! Click this link to get on their VIP waiting list.
The Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Mat lives up to its hype for sure and there is a reason it keeps selling out!!! I have always been a fan of regularly cleaning your makeup brushes - hello, get rid of that bacteria and say hello to clear skin - but if I have a lot of brushes to clean, it can take awhile. (Click here for my tutorial on how to clean makeup brushes if you don't have a spa mat) Well this mat cuts my makeup brush cleaning time in half!
I love that the mat can fit in almost any size sink and that the water runs right over the mat to optimize your cleaning time. I also love that everything washes right down the drain, no need to have to clean extra bowls or cups too! Clean up after cleaning :) is a breeze. And the mat has great suction cups on the back, so you don't have to worry about the mat slipping while you use it.
Because there are so many ridges and textures, I really feel like my brushes get a thorough cleaning. In fact the water runs clear relatively fast, letting me know that my brushes have all of the gunk washed out of them. I really like using the spa mat for my smaller brushes (i.e. for my eyes and lips) because I felt like they looked like new when they were cleaned and dried. The mat can still work for bigger brushes, but I felt like I had to do a little extra cleaning and squeezing more so than with the little brushes.
All in all, this is one purchase I am so happy I made. I can seriously wash my 15 brushes (yes I use that many) in about 5 minutes. Easy peasy and it is all done!!!
A few tips:
-use baby shampoo, it is gentle on the brushes and gets them clean
-read the handy how to guide that comes with the mat
-use warm water
-wash your makeup brushes in the morning, immediately after putting on your makeup, so they have time to dry thoroughly before you need to use them again
If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments below. I'll try to alert you as soon as this mat comes available again!
