Rocksbox is my Jam!

Hello, my name is Lindsay and I'm an Accessory Hoarder.

It is like Rocksbox was invented just for me because I ABSOLUTELY love this subscription box and have really enjoyed trying out new pieces of jewelry. If you don't know what Rocksbox is, let me explain:

Rocksbox is a jewelry subscription service that lends you three pieces of jewelry at a time from top designers (like Kendra Scott and House of Harlow) that you wear and borrow as long as you like (hello dressy events coming up!). If you fall completely in love with the jewelry, you can purchase the pieces you want at a discounted price and send back whatever you don't want. And the really cool part is that you can exchange your box as many times in a month as you want! For only $19 a month (no matter how many times you exchange), you can try out tons of cool jewelry and decide if its "you" before committing to a purchase. Rocksbox will also give you a $10 credit each month that you can apply toward the purchase of jewelry if you end up wanting to own the piece.

If this sounds like something you want to check out, your first month can be FREE! Just enter code

lindsaytolarxoxo

This month, I received another great box. I got a pretty killer, crystal statement necklace from Perry Street; some cute, delicate rings from Wanderlust + Co; and an edgy bracelet from Jenny Bird. The one thing I absolutely love about Rocksbox is that I am finding out I have different tastes than I originally thought. I'm a HUGE statement jewelry fan and have never really been a fan of delicate jewelry. Although in my first two boxes from Rocksbox, I have decided to keep the delicate pieces of jewelry that I was sent. Rocksbox has given me options!

In this month's box, I really enjoyed the statement necklace and even wore it with a few dresses. Because of the silver and crystal, the necklace can be paired with virtually everything. I did send the necklace back though, because I already own something similar. I was intrigued to find the edgy Jenny Bird bracelet. I knew before I wore it that it wasn't my style, but it was still fun to mix it up and try something new. Now the rings from Wanderlust + Co...I LOVE THEM. One ring is a regular size and the other is a midi ring. I've seen midi rings around, but never thought I would like them until I got the chance to try. I love the look (although I am scared the midi ring is going to fall off). I have worn the rings almost every day because they are just so pretty and go with everything.

Two features that I absolutely adore about Rocksbox:
1.) They make it INCREDIBLY easy to ship your box back. You just use the same envelope that was sent to you and adhere the return postage sticker and pop it in your mailbox. So easy (shipping back to them is free!).

2.) You can leave feedback for your stylist. If you receive something in your box that you love or hate, tell your stylist and they will take everything into consideration when selecting a future box. I love how versatile this subscription service is!

High Five For Friday

1.) While I was out of town in Austin, K was visiting her G Ma in Illinois. She was gone for an entire week - it was so long! I received this photo on Monday morning; my baby heading home!!!!!

2.) I'm so thankful for the blessings, friendships and opportunities that God has placed in my life.

3.) My Dad retired at the beginning of September (congrats Dad!), so he and my mom decided to take a long trip to celebrate. I got this selfie from my Dad yesterday; he makes me laugh all the time!

4.) I am in love with these rings I received in my most recent Rocksbox. How do you feel about midi rings? I wasn't sure I would like them, but fell in love with this set (use code lindsaytolarxoxo for one free month of Rocksbox).

5.) Dr. K heard that her Pops and her cousin were sick this week, so she started practicing her doctor skills on all of her friends.

Some Time Away

Last week I was in Austin, Texas enjoying some good, quality girl time for a Rodan + Fields Convention. Funny that I have only ever been to Texas twice and both times have been to Austin for R+F. I really like Austin and I look forward to visiting again with Tolar so we can do plenty of sightseeing and take in the local spots.

But this trip was all about my girls and celebrating our businesses! We started the trip with a team retreat at a gorgeous house right in Hill Country. The pool and hot tub for the house looked right down a hill, I completely understand where they get the name! It was so nice to connect as a team before the Convention craziness began.

Once Convention began, the excitement started boiling over. It was so fun to reconnect with old friends from last year's Convention, meet new people, get excited and pumped up from top leaders in the company and to hear all of the exciting product and company announcements! The training was spot on, the food was delish, the company was perfect and the ending gala was oh so fun. Even AC Slater himself (Mario Lopez) got in on the action as the host of our gala.

I can tell you this, Rodan + Fields is growing and it is growing fast! In a few short years, I am sure that Rodan + Fields will be a household name just like Proactiv (the same doctors created both). We have actually been the fastest growing skin care company for the past six years! I'm thrilled that I joined the company at the beginning and that I get paid to wash my face and talk about it! Trust me, your friends are going to hear about R+F!

One of the things that I love the MOST about R+F is the friendships I have been afforded. I have never met a more supportive group of women ever in my life. My team and business partners are all about building each other up and being there for one another instead of knocking each other down just so we can get to the top alone. Some of my best friendships have grown all because of Rodan + Fields and the time we get to spend together. This business has been a blessing to me in so many ways (with the financial blessing being a huge one) and I can only hope that I will get to bless many others over and over again.

If you have any interest in learning about Rodan + Fields, whether as a business opportunity or if you want to get some AMAZING and guaranteed skin care, then shoot me an e-mail. lindsay@pursuitofpink.com
I'd love to fill you in on the goodness of the company and share with you the business that truly changed my life.

Wore: Transitioning from Summer to Fall

One of my absolute favorite things to do with my wardrobe is to get the most wear out of everything that I can. I love being able to wear pieces in virtually every season by mixing everything up - that is the beauty of a closet that works together. So when I laid eyes on this gorgeous dress from the Mint Julep Boutique, I knew that I HAD to wear it for more than just the last few weeks of summer.

Before I even get in to the styling of the dress, let me remind you how much I love Mint Julep (you can see a previous style post here). The Mint Julep Boutique is an online clothing boutique FULL of beautiful and feminine pieces. The dress section alone is jam packed with any kind of dress you could ever want in life: maxi dresses, casual dresses, party dresses, shift dresses, black dresses, colorful dresses, everything. The boutique also has tops, cardigans, pants, jeans, accessories and shoes. I think you could fill your entire closet with clothes from Mint Julep! There is so much to choose from and everything is on trend while still offering plenty of classic pieces.

Back to the dress. I love color in my life, but I tend to stick with blacks and grays in my wardrobe. So when I laid eyes on the gorgeous orange in this dress, I decided to step out of my style comfort zone and add a little bit of color. Plus, I knew the color would work nicely with a Fall wardrobe and all of the Fall colors that are just around the corner.

For a warmer weather look, I paired the dress with a pair of cognac wedge sandals and some simple accessories. The detail on the top of the dress is statement enough, so I decided to not wear as much jewelry as I normally do. The dress is light and breezy and was perfect for those hot Summer days.
(Side note, I LOVED the dress from the moment I saw it, but it was a tad too short for me. So I purchased a dress extender and was in love with the final result.)

To transition the dress into the fall, I added a pair of suede booties and a long cardigan. You should already know by now that cardigans are one of my favorite pieces of clothing; I wear them all the time. Cardigans are a great way to layer clothing and stretch your wardrobe from one season to the next. The suede booties just scream fall and always look good paired with a flowy dress.
You can also add leggings or a scarf to a Summer look to transition it into the Fall and Winter.

Skirt Extender: Etsy
Booties: TJ Maxx (similar)
Cardigan: Target (similar)
Sandals: Shoe Carnival (similar)
Rings: Rocksbox (use code lindsaytolarxoxo for your first month free)

How do you transition your clothing from one season to the next?

Celebrate Fall in the New River Valley

Fall colors, cooler weather, boots, pumpkin spice everything, trick or treating...I really do love Fall! There are always so many activities to check out during the Fall season, making the season that much more fun. My biggest piece of advice to anyone who lives in a new town or for anyone who hasn't really made the most out of where they live...check out the Fall offerings available near you. It's a great way to grow appreciation for where you live and also a fabulous way to meet people!

For my local friends (New River Valley, Virginia), I compiled a list of some fun fall activities that my family will be checking out! I am sure that similar events for all of these activities are located all across the U.S. - come back at the beginning of October and I will share a national list.

Fall Fun Activities in the New River Valley!

1.) Thornspring Pumpkin Patch - Fun for the whole family! Thornspring Farms transforms their property into a Fall Fun Festival; with a corn maze (one for adults and one for the little ones), animals to pet, tractor/train rides, a bounce floor, refreshments, pumpkins, free parking and so much more. We took Baby K to this last year and had an absolute blast. It is a tradition in our family to visit a pumpkin patch each year and Thornspring Farms does not disappoint!

2.) Wine Down Friday - The Draper Mercantile hosts this event every Friday, but over Halloween weekend everyone will be treated to some fabulous live music at the Merc! This amazing band called Three States Away will be playing on Friday, October 30. Three States Away is a band comprised of my fabulous husband and two of our good friends - they pay homage to the music that has made them who they were always meant to be. I can guarantee you will have a great time and be thoroughly wowed and entertained. Stop by for a drink and dinner and stay for the incredible entertainment.

3.) Paint Party: Pumpkins - Have a paint party, but with pumpkins! Just like Paint Nite or Wine and Design, you can have a paint party, but a pumpkin is your canvas. The ladies from my church attended a Paint Party at the Artful Place in Blacksburg and we had such a great time. The location is unique, the instructors are so knowledgeable and I know you will walk away with a masterpiece to display on your front stoop for Halloween.

4.) Hokie Bug Fest - Creepy crawly things! Ah! But I know there are tons of kids out there who love all things bugs and the Hokie Bug Fest promises to deliver just that. The list of exhibits for the Bug Fest is insane - there is so much to do! A bug zoo, a flea circus and fantasy face painting are just a few activities that caught my eye.

5.) Apple Picking at Doe Creek Farm - Next to pumpkins, apples are the perfect fall scent. I've always wanted to go apple picking and I think now that Baby K is old enough to enjoy it we just might hit up an orchard. Doe Creek Farm has 15 types of apples that you can pick and they also offer plenty of apple products for purchase. I personally cannot wait to purchase some apple butter and cider. Check their website before you go, they are only open on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Saturday.

Soothing Flip Flops

I was sent a complimentary pair of flip flops from Flopz for review purposes, all opinions are completely my own.

Can it be true? Can flip flops actually soothe your feet while you walk and wear them?

I wasn't a believer, until I tried Flopz flip flops. Picture it with me: you just bought a brand new pair of shoes that you were dying to wear, only to have them hurt your feet after two minutes. Now you are mad at yourself; why did you hurt your feet so badly? Well, if you have a pair of Flopz flip flops you can soothe your tired and hurt feet as soon as you slip them on. Flopz keep your feet feeling rejuvenated the entire time you wear them.

These gorgeous and comfortable flip flops are completely luxurious. They have a unique gel layer insole that massages your feet while you walk, and they do not rub. Even though they soothe and take care of you, they aren't bland or ugly. Flopz come in a variety of bright and beautiful colors, making them so fun to wear and match with the clothes in your closet. Flopz have the unique luminescence of tropical fish and coral reefs - the colors are breathtaking. It is hard to stop myself from wanting to buy them all because the colors are so pretty.

Yes, I realize that the calendar says September 21, but the warm days are not behind us just yet. I am all about rocking a fab pair of flip flops with my jeans well into October. If the warm Virginia days are going to stick around, I'm going to welcome them with open arms and my pink Flopz. Allow yourself (and your feet!) a little bit of luxury during these last warm, muggy days of the year. I like to take my Flopz to the nail salon with me, so I can continue the pampering of a pedicure even as I walk out the door!

Fun Bites!

Parents, I'm talking to you today!
Do you have a picky eater? Or perhaps even a child who seems bored with the same old food and you want to put a spin on their meals? Or you might even be like us and want to continue to reinforce the shapes that your child knows. If any of these are you, listen up!

I recently started using a really awesome food cutter called Fun Bites! This two piece system cuts your child's food into fun, bite-sized shapes that make it hard for them to not want to devour all of their food. Fun Bites come in squares, hearts or triangles and are the perfect tool to help parents get creative when it comes to meal time.

The first time I used our square Fun Bites cutter and gave Baby K her plate, she got really excited and kept saying "square, square, square" over and over again. K has known her shapes for awhile now, but we always try to quiz her on shapes to make sure she remembers. And I love that Fun Bites helps me continue our shape lesson while also getting her excited about eating. Sometimes, K takes awhile to eat her food because she gets distracted or even becomes bored. But thanks to the cute shapes and small sizes, K gobbled her lunch right up.

The Fun Bites cutter is very easy to use. All you do is place the cutter on the food you want to cut. Press down firmly, rocking back and forth a few times, making sure you cut all the way through the food. Then you grab the popper top, lift the cutter up from the food, push the popper top down and you have perfectly shaped bite-sized pieces of food in a matter of seconds.

I love Fun Bites because it also saves me time when I'm preparing K's food. She is still at an age where I prefer to give her everything cut up in small pieces. Thanks to Fun Bites, I'm able to cut a lot of little squares all in one step! Easy peasy! The cutters also come in some really great colors, making meal time that much more fun! I am sure we will be using Fun Bites for a long time! Besides the perfectly shaped food, I certainly appreciate that my child thinks it is fun to pop the bite-sized pieces in her mouth because they are just her size.

Then There Was The ER

Last night was quite interesting, starting with Tolar taking a fall during his softball game and us ending up at the ER for his hurt shoulder. And because ER visits are always full of such fun, I thought I would play a little game with you called Good News/Bad News.

Good News: We got to spend an evening together, just the two of us.
Bad News: We spent said evening together...in the ER.

Good News: K was at G Ma's house, so we didn't need to worry about finding care for her while we were stuck in the ER.
Bad News: K was at G Ma's house, so we missed her. Like really missed her.

Good News: They got us into a room very quickly, making us think that this ER experience would be nothing like our ER experience in Northern Virginia.
Bad News: It was a vicious lie. Longest wait ever.

Good News: I had my phone so I could keep Tolar's softball team and our family updated.
Bad News: My phone battery wasn't charged (typical) and I had about 9% left when we received a prognosis.

Good News: Tolar hurt his knee pretty badly and the nurse finally bandaged it up after we asked her to do so.
Bad News; Apparently they only treat one injury when you go to the ER because she barely cleaned and bandaged him up because she didn't want him to bleed all over the place!!!!

Good News: I got to catch the So You Think You Can Dance finale.
Bad News: A nurse entered the room to ask some questions right as the winner was announced.

In all seriousness, we are home after a long night in the ER. Tolar got an X-ray and there was some separation on his right shoulder, likely AC separation (hopefully my medical friends understand that - we just nodded along). He has to wear his arm in a sling, was prescribed some narcotics to help with the pain and referred to an orthopedist (and yes Liann, he was referred to the doctor that you suggested). Tolar is resting now as I type. Can I ask you to pray for Tolar to have a miraculous healing? I'm heading out of town on Wednesday and hate having to leave him in pain!

Birthdays Are Fun!

Over the weekend we traveled to see my sister, brother in-law and nephew to celebrate my nephew turning 3. I seriously cannot believe that child is 3 years old already, I still remember the day he was born so vividly!!!

My nephew had a splash party for his birthday and I think it is safe to say that the Dads had just as much fun as the kiddos. It was sweet to see my Dad and my brother in-law's Dad playing with my nephew. Tolar even got in on the sprinkler action with Baby K. And as per usual, the photos are mostly of the kids. They were just too cute, I couldn't stop snapping the camera.

And it was my fabulous Mom's birthday too! I hope you had a great birthday Mom.

1.) In case you missed it, I'm hosting a Fall Fun Swap where you send a fun fall themed package in the mail to another participant. Check out this post for full details. Basically if you like fall and you like mail, then this is for you!.

2.) I received an awesome bracelet from Rodan + Fields for promoting another level with my business. I cannot believe that this company offers so many rewards and incentives in addition to the awesome paycheck and great skin I get each month. #dreamjob

3.) While shopping earlier this week I couldn't pass up this adorable Sophia backpack - it was on clearance, of course I had to buy it! K LOVES it and has worn it all over the house. It is as big as she is. (Side note: I really love to watch Sophia and will often try to convince K to watch it.)

4.) Earlier this week I told you about my love for Rocksbox, well I love them even more now! I had a small little problem that I e-mailed them about and they handled it immediately. I was impressed by their response time, their kind words and they even gave me $10 in my account! Oh yeah, I'm their #1 fan! (To get one month free from Rocksbox enter code lindsaytolarxoxo at checkout!)

5.) Last weekend I went grocery shopping on Sunday instead of my normal Monday trip because I had a lot going on this week. When I got home, not only was Tolar cooking dinner, but he was making a yummy and nutritious dinner too.

How was your week? I hope it was fab!
