Celebrate Fall in the New River Valley

Fall colors, cooler weather, boots, pumpkin spice everything, trick or treating...I really do love Fall! There are always so many activities to check out during the Fall season, making the season that much more fun. My biggest piece of advice to anyone who lives in a new town or for anyone who hasn't really made the most out of where they live...check out the Fall offerings available near you. It's a great way to grow appreciation for where you live and also a fabulous way to meet people!

For my local friends (New River Valley, Virginia), I compiled a list of some fun fall activities that my family will be checking out! I am sure that similar events for all of these activities are located all across the U.S. - come back at the beginning of October and I will share a national list.

Fall Fun Activities in the New River Valley!

1.) Thornspring Pumpkin Patch - Fun for the whole family! Thornspring Farms transforms their property into a Fall Fun Festival; with a corn maze (one for adults and one for the little ones), animals to pet, tractor/train rides, a bounce floor, refreshments, pumpkins, free parking and so much more. We took Baby K to this last year and had an absolute blast. It is a tradition in our family to visit a pumpkin patch each year and Thornspring Farms does not disappoint!

2.) Wine Down Friday - The Draper Mercantile hosts this event every Friday, but over Halloween weekend everyone will be treated to some fabulous live music at the Merc! This amazing band called Three States Away will be playing on Friday, October 30. Three States Away is a band comprised of my fabulous husband and two of our good friends - they pay homage to the music that has made them who they were always meant to be. I can guarantee you will have a great time and be thoroughly wowed and entertained. Stop by for a drink and dinner and stay for the incredible entertainment.

3.) Paint Party: Pumpkins - Have a paint party, but with pumpkins! Just like Paint Nite or Wine and Design, you can have a paint party, but a pumpkin is your canvas. The ladies from my church attended a Paint Party at the Artful Place in Blacksburg and we had such a great time. The location is unique, the instructors are so knowledgeable and I know you will walk away with a masterpiece to display on your front stoop for Halloween.

4.) Hokie Bug Fest - Creepy crawly things! Ah! But I know there are tons of kids out there who love all things bugs and the Hokie Bug Fest promises to deliver just that. The list of exhibits for the Bug Fest is insane - there is so much to do! A bug zoo, a flea circus and fantasy face painting are just a few activities that caught my eye.

5.) Apple Picking at Doe Creek Farm - Next to pumpkins, apples are the perfect fall scent. I've always wanted to go apple picking and I think now that Baby K is old enough to enjoy it we just might hit up an orchard. Doe Creek Farm has 15 types of apples that you can pick and they also offer plenty of apple products for purchase. I personally cannot wait to purchase some apple butter and cider. Check their website before you go, they are only open on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Saturday.
